Why do I paint?
Artist Statement
I paint to discover myself. Art helps me to explore inwards and outwards. It creates a space outside of time.
I am on a pilgrimage and quest for creating powerful connections. I am drawn to the kind of art that makes you want to break down and cry.
Being immersed in nature is one of my greatest joys.
I love the colours of the sea and coastal areas where I feel close to the rhythms of natural. My art is an intuitive response that I cannot express in any other way.
I use oils and other materials in a non-conventional way. I will mix water and oil based mediums. I like to play with the unpredictable effects that result. I love evolving my technique and experimenting.
I need to work in solitude, outdoors and in the studio.
My favourite painters are Van Gogh, Monet, Matisse and Rothko. I am drawn to artists that continually push their art form forwards.
TS Elilot’s poetry, in particular the Four Quartets resonate strongly with me.
I am making art in my own unique way and not following contemporary trends.
I am preoccupied with transformation. I was with my dad when he passed away in 2016. This event had a profound effect on my work and me.
My recent art explores the theme of ascension and a yearning for the divine.
