Lansdowne House
Audrey and Jeff Lovelock transformed a listed Edwardian artists studio in Holland Park, along with 5000 square feet of derelict basement rooms below, into a bespoke, subterranean home.
I hired a van and drove from Dorset to London to show Jeff and Audrey a small selection of works which they wanted to view in the space. Parking nearby was an issue and I got a parking ticket. But I loved seeing the home and it was worth it. Jeff and Audrey purchased Heaven and Earth (dyptich) and Stone Steps directly from me. These works fitted into the space so well.
The house was designed by the Scottish architect William Flockhart and constructed in 1905 as six purpose built artist studio flats.
Lansdowne Studios was a music recording studio in Holland Park, London, England, which operated between 1958 and 2006.
It was used in its early years by many jazz and pop muscians, and became known for the clarity of its recordings. Musicians who recorded in the studio included Lonnie Donegan, Dave Clark Five, The Animals and Queen. The Sex Pistols recorded their first attempt at Anarchy in the UK at this address.
The April 2013 Edition of Grand Designs Magazine featured paintings “Heaven and Earth” by Stephen Bishop.
